A large painting allows the viewer to disappear into the work. A small work offers the viewer intimacy.
The small works are comprised of many things – mixed media work, collages, prints and drawings that are often the prelude to a larger work. Lately I’ve been drawing plein air on board and these not only are wonderful works in their own right but are preliminary work for larger major paintings.
Paintings are for Ruth the delight of using colour, gesture, layering and line to convey the world around. As Ruth says ‘Painting is the reason I am. It is a joy to create in the visual language and is a wonderful way to communicate.’
