A large painting allows the viewer to disappear into the work. A small work offers the viewer intimacy.
The small works comprise mixed media work, collages, prints and drawings that are often the prelude to a larger work. The collage work can be whimsical, or fun, such as the text work the ‘Mills and Boon’ series. This series reframes a Mills and Boon page with the addition of line, paint and collage to present a new reality from the original.
Paintings are for Ruth the delight of using colour, gesture, layering and line to convey the world around. As Ruth says ‘Painting is the reason I am. It is a joy to create in the visual language and is a wonderful way to communicate.’
