There are coincidences and delights in life. And one was a phone call from Julie Chambers the Director of The Art Vault Gallery in Mildura. She was wondering if I would be interested in an exhibition at the gallery at the end of June/early July this year. I was sitting there a little in the doldrums and feeling somewhat uninspired. As a result of Julie’s phone call I felt motivated and quite excited about the possibilities. So after thinking about it, I agreed.
I have undertaken art residencies and exhibited at The Art Vault many times since it opened. My involvement with The Art Vault came about as a consequence of me wanting to understand more about the Mallee and particularly why my mother, born in the area, remained enamoured of the ‘Mallee’ all her life. I initially went to Mildura to do a residential only to check out ‘the Mallee’ and found in the time I was there I was growing to understand and enjoy it. And each subsequent visit my appreciation and interest in the area has grown. Now I’m thinking I’ll undertake a preliminary trip prior to the exhibition, out to the Darling area of the Mallee. I may go via Canberra, visit Deniliquin and afterwards wend my way back home via Broken Hill and the Menindee Lakes, maybe even visit Kinchega NP and Parkes. I’ll keep you posted.
